Studysummary In this animal study, researchers found that nanofibers combining gold nanoparticles with silk fibroin improved wound healing more effectively than silk fibroin alone, promoting faster skin recovery and hair follicle formation in rats over 7 and 21 days. Our plain-language summary of this paper — not a Tressless recommendation.
The study investigated the wound-healing potential of gold nanoparticles combined with silk fibroin-based nanofiber using a green chemistry approach. Conducted on 40 rats divided into two treatment periods (7 and 21 days), the research compared control, silver, silk fibroin, and silk + gold nanoparticle groups. Results showed that the gold nanoparticle/silk fibroin-based nanofiber effectively restored skin damage indicators to normal levels and promoted hair follicle formation and re-epithelialization at the wound site. The study concluded that the addition of gold nanoparticles to silk fibroin significantly enhanced wound-healing properties compared to silk fibroin alone.
