TLDR Higher CD70 and CD27 gene expression in alopecia areata lesions predicts disease severity and activity.
This study involving 40 patients with alopecia areata (AA) found that the expression of CD27 and CD70 genes is significantly increased in AA lesions compared to non-lesional areas and healthy controls. The increased expression levels of these genes correlate with the severity and activity of AA, suggesting that the CD27-CD70 signaling pathway may play a role in the disease's pathogenesis. These findings indicate that targeting the CD27-CD70 interaction could be a potential therapeutic strategy for AA, although further research is needed due to the study's small sample size.
