TLDR The rs231775 genetic variant is linked to a higher risk and severity of Alopecia Areata in males.
The study investigated the association of the rs231775 genetic variant of the CTLA4 gene with Alopecia Areata (AA) in 186 males (93 AA patients and 93 controls). The rs231775 CTLA4 variant was found to be significantly higher in AA patients compared to controls, particularly among those with heterozygous and dominant models. This association was also linked to disease severity, with individuals homozygous for the rs231775 variant showing a higher risk and increased severity of AA.
