TLDR The gelatin-based hydrogel helps heal acute and diabetic wounds faster by improving healing conditions.
The study presents a simple method to create a gelatin-based hydrogel (QCN@Gel-Zr) for diabetic wound treatment. The hydrogel is made by combining zirconium (Zr4+), gelatin, and quercetin (QCN). The addition of QCN improved the hydrogel's mechanical, injection, and adhesive performance, and also gave it antibacterial and free radical–scavenging abilities. These properties promoted cellular proliferation and migration, protected against oxidative stress, and reduced inflammatory expression. The hydrogel was tested on in vivo models of acute and chronic diabetic skin wounds, where it showed biocompatibility and the ability to promote wound healing. The hydrogel also promoted angiogenesis, collagen deposition, and hair follicle regeneration without detectable cytotoxicity. This research demonstrates the potential of gelatin-based hydrogel for diabetic wound repair.
