TLDR Fullerene C60 shows promise as a new treatment for various skin conditions.
Fullerene C60 exhibited both cytoprotective and cytotoxic properties, making it a potential novel treatment in dermatology. It acted as a radical scavenger and generated reactive oxygen species (ROS), which could reduce oxidative stress-related skin disorders like psoriasis, acne, and alopecia areata. Functionalized C60 showed less acute toxicity and no adverse skin reactions. It demonstrated protective effects against UV radiation, reduced acne inflammation, aided post-laser treatment care, promoted hair growth, and improved wound healing. Despite its use in cosmetics for anti-aging and skin hydration, the exact fate of C60 after skin application remained unclear, necessitating further research.
