TLDR A mother and daughter with similar hair loss conditions and identical HLA types suggest a genetic link between the conditions.
In the 2015 case report, a 67-year-old woman with frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) and her 38-year-old daughter with lichen planopilaris (LPP) were examined, revealing identical human leukocyte antigen (HLA) types, which suggests a genetic connection between the two conditions. The mother also had an autoimmune condition not previously associated with FFA. Both patients' treatments resulted in minimal improvement. The report underscores the potential role of genetic, environmental, and hormonal factors in the development of FFA and LPP, but the study's conclusions are limited due to the small sample size of only two participants.
