TLDR FOLFOX6 chemotherapy effectively reduces VEGF levels and improves quality of life in advanced colorectal cancer patients.
The study investigated the impact of FOLFOX6 chemotherapy on serum VEGF levels in 81 patients with advanced colorectal cancer. The treatment involved a 2-week course repeated 4 times, including oxaliplatin, calcium folinate, and 5-fluorouracil. Results showed a total chemotherapy efficiency of 82.72%, with significant reductions in VEGF and CRP levels post-treatment. The Karnofsky Performance Status (KPS) scores improved significantly, indicating enhanced quality of life. Adverse reactions included rash, hair loss, and nausea/vomiting in a few cases. Overall, FOLFOX6 was effective in reducing VEGF expression and improving patient outcomes with a favorable safety profile.
