TLDR Disodium folinate can safely and effectively replace calcium folinate in colorectal cancer treatment.
The study observed the efficacy and adverse effects of a treatment regimen involving the simultaneous continuous infusion of fluorouracil (5-FU) and disodium folinate (Na-FA) combined with oxaliplatin in 54 patients with metastatic colorectal cancer. The patients were divided into two groups: one receiving Na-FA (n=30) and the other receiving the mFOLFOX6 regimen with calcium folinate (Ca-FA) (n=24). After four cycles, the response rate and disease control rate were 53.3% and 86.7% for the Na-FA group, and 50.0% and 87.5% for the Ca-FA group, with no significant difference between the two. Common side effects included grade 1-2 gastric reactions, myelosuppression, and hair loss, with similar incidence rates in both groups. The study concluded that the Na-FA regimen was safe, effective, and convenient, suggesting that calcium folinate could be substituted by disodium folinate in the mFOLFOX regimen.
