TLDR Flutamide effectively reduces hair growth in women with hirsutism and improves acne and seborrhea without side effects.
In a study conducted by T. Motta and colleagues, ten hirsute women were treated with flutamide (250 mg/day) for 6 months to assess its efficacy. The treatment significantly reduced hair growth as measured by the Ferriman and Gallwey hair score (P < 0.01). Additionally, there was a notable increase in serum androstenedione levels (P < 0.01), and marked improvements in acne and seborrhea were observed. No side effects were reported during the treatment period. The findings suggested that flutamide's antiandrogenic properties made it a suitable single agent for treating hirsutism.
