How Safe and Effective Is Finasteride for Hair Loss in Postmenopausal Women?

    Magdalena Pasarica, Philipp Narciso
TLDR Finasteride at 1 mg daily doesn't help hair loss in postmenopausal women and has similar side effects to a placebo.
In normoandrogenic postmenopausal women, finasteride at a dose of 1 mg per day did not improve hair loss, and its adverse event profile was similar to that of a placebo during the first year of use. This conclusion was based on a single randomized controlled trial (RCT), and higher doses of finasteride had not been studied in RCTs for this population.

Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.
