TLDR Low dose cyclical nutrition therapy can consistently and safely improve hair growth and density without needing anti-androgens.
In 2017, a study was conducted by the Department of Hair Transplant & Trichology, Dr Rajesh Rajput Hair Restore Clinic, Mumbai, India, involving 400 patients (200 men and 200 women). The study aimed to evaluate the effects of low dose cyclical nutrition therapy on hair growth, excluding the use of finasteride. Participants were divided into two groups, one receiving standard therapy of finasteride and minoxidil, and the other receiving a combination of minoxidil and nutritional supplements. Results showed that nutritional supplements led to consistent improvements in hair density and calibre, with a minimum 18% increase in hair density within 2 months, and a maximum increase of 156% over a year. Side effects included gastric irritation, constipation, and a feeling of heaviness in the stomach in some participants. The study concluded that hair regrowth can be achieved consistently and safely by strengthening the hair roots and promoting hair growth without necessarily depending on the use of anti-androgens.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

The user experiences scalp itchiness despite using ketoconazole shampoo and is also taking oral finasteride and minoxidil. Suggestions include trying different shampoos like Head & Shoulders, using salicylic acid products, considering allergies, and consulting a dermatologist for alternatives like Ciclopirox.

The conversation is about someone who has been using finasteride and minoxidil for over three years without satisfactory results for hair thinning. They have started using dutasteride and added RU58841 seven months ago but have not seen improvements yet.
