TLDR The new topical product combined with finasteride significantly increased hair thickness without side effects.
In a study from May 2014, researchers conducted a 12-month randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 20 male volunteers who had been using finasteride 1 mg for at least 3 years to treat androgenetic alopecia (AGA). The study aimed to assess the synergistic effects of combining oral finasteride with a novel topical product designed to address premature hair follicular cell apoptosis and microinflammation in the scalp. The results showed that the group using both finasteride and the novel product had a 37.7% greater increase in hair diameter compared to the group using finasteride and a placebo, with no observed side effects. The study concluded that addressing both premature cell apoptosis and microinflammation, in addition to using 5-alpha reductase inhibitors like finasteride, is an effective approach for managing AGA and improving hair pattern. The topical product could be a new treatment option for those with alopecia, including those already on finasteride treatment.
