TLDR FGF18 is present in beagle dog hair follicles, mainly in the inner root sheath.
The study investigated the presence and localization of fibroblast growth factor 18 (FGF18) in the hair follicles of 10 healthy beagle dogs. Researchers aimed to determine if FGF18 played a role in hair follicle cycling, similar to findings in mice. Skin biopsies were taken from the shoulder and flank of the dogs in both winter and summer, and FGF18 was detected primarily in the inner root sheath of hair follicles, with some presence in the outer root sheath, dermal papilla, apocrine glands, arrector pili muscles, and vascular endothelial cells. The study found no significant differences in FGF18-positive cells or follicles based on sex, anatomical location, season, or sampling days.
