TLDR A family had a genetic condition causing hair loss on the scalp, passed down through four generations.
The study described a Danish family spanning four generations affected by hypotrichosis of the scalp, characterized by a gradual and diffuse hair loss leading to almost total scalp alopecia by ages 14-21. The condition began between ages 6-17 and was not associated with other ectodermal defects. Out of 22 family members, 9 were affected, and the pattern of inheritance was consistent with autosomal dominant transmission. A scalp biopsy indicated non-scarring alopecia with features similar to androgenetic alopecia.

Topical minoxidil being a difficult product to apply, with users considering finasteride, RU58841, and oral minoxidil as alternative treatments for diffuse thinning hair. Other advice includes shaving the head in the first 3 months of using minoxidil and finding ways to apply it without saturating the hair.
