TLDR Interferon gamma alone can't cause alopecia areata in C3H/HeJ mice.
The study tested whether exogenous interferon gamma could induce alopecia areata in C3H/HeJ mice, a model for this autoimmune disease. Despite inducing anagen by wax stripping and injecting recombinant murine interferon gamma, the frequency and onset of alopecia did not change. This suggested that interferon gamma alone was not sufficient to initiate alopecia areata in these mice.
