TLDR Facial hair is crucial for gender affirmation, but many face financial barriers to achieving desired results.
This study surveyed 24 transgender and gender diverse adults to understand their facial hair-related practices, satisfaction, and barriers. It found that 79% of participants considered facial hair important for gender affirmation, yet the same percentage were dissatisfied with their current facial hair. Common treatments included topical minoxidil and biotin for growth, and shaving and laser hair removal for removal. A significant 96% of respondents faced financial or insurance-related barriers. The study highlights the importance of facial hair in gender affirmation and the need for better financial support and awareness in gender-affirming hair care.
