TLDR A man had a rare skin reaction from a hair loss medication, which improved after stopping the drug.
A 21-year-old man developed acute localized exanthematous pustulosis (ALEP), a rare skin reaction, after taking finasteride for three months to treat androgenetic alopecia. He presented with erythematous non-follicular papules and pustules on his breast and lower abdomen. Upon discontinuing finasteride, his skin lesions resolved within four weeks, leaving hyperpigmentation and slight scaling. A lymphocytic transformation test confirmed a positive reaction to finasteride. The authors of the report considered this reaction to be an unusual manifestation of acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) specifically induced by finasteride.
