TLDR The dog with severe hair loss and itching improved after treatment for ehrlichiosis and demodicosis.
A 2-year-old male local breed dog weighing 8 kg presented with severe hair loss and intense itching, rated 8/10. Clinical examination revealed alopecia, scales, erythema, tick infestation, anemic mucosa, and swollen lymph nodes. Laboratory tests indicated macrocytic hypochromic anemia, leukocytosis, lymphocytosis, granulocytosis, thrombocytopenia, and infections with Ehrlichia sp. and Demodex sp. The dog was diagnosed with ehrlichiosis and demodicosis and treated with doxycycline, ivermectin, diphenhydramine, vitamin B complex, and sulfur soap baths. After 14 days, there was a reduction in itching and improvement in hematological parameters and Demodex sp. infection. By day 28, the dog showed further improvement with new hair growth and a better body condition score. The dog was also recommended a nutrient-rich diet and supplements to aid recovery.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

Increased Malassezia and Cutibacterium in the scalp microbiome are linked to higher sebum production and inflammation in androgenetic alopecia (AGA). Treatments include ciclopirox shampoo, benzoyl peroxide shampoo, clobetasol propionate, calcipotriol, minoxidil, finasteride, and dutasteride.

Hair loss is linked to cellular physiology and the IGF-1 to TGF-B1 ratio, not just androgen sensitivity. The theory lacks evidence, while finasteride and minoxidil are effective treatments.

The conversation discusses the tension theory as a cause of male pattern baldness (MPB), suggesting that scalp tension and reduced subcutaneous fat layer contribute to hair loss. Treatments mentioned include Minoxidil, finasteride, microneedling, scalp massages, and Botox.
