TLDR Using 10% topical minoxidil, oral finasteride, and microneedling together can effectively treat Male Pattern Baldness with high patient satisfaction and no major side effects.
In 2017, a non-randomized uncontrolled trial was conducted on 25 male patients aged 20 to 35 years with Male Pattern Baldness (MPB) of Hamilton grade II to VII. The patients were treated with a combination of 1mg oral finasteride once daily, 10% topical minoxidil 1ml twice daily, and microneedling once every 15 days for 6 months. The results showed that 12 patients had grade 4 satisfaction, 10 had grade 3, and 3 had grade 2. Physician assessment revealed excellent improvement in 9 patients, moderate improvement in 12, and mild improvement in 4. No major side effects were reported. The study concluded that this combination therapy was effective with moderate to excellent response in the majority of patients with high patient satisfaction at the end of 6 months without any side effects. However, further studies with larger sample sizes were recommended.
