TLDR Isotretinoin is effective for treating dissecting cellulitis, but recurrence is common.
The review and meta-analysis assessed the efficacy of isotretinoin in treating dissecting cellulitis of the scalp, a primary scarring alopecia. Five multi-patient studies were included, and the pooled meta-analysis showed an overall efficacy rate of 0.9 (95% CI: 0.81–0.97) with a sensitivity analysis range of 0.83–0.94. Recurrence occurred in 24% of patients. Common associated diseases included acne conglobata (20%) and hidradenitis suppurativa (19%). The study concluded that isotretinoin was effective in improving symptoms, though recurrence was common.
