TLDR Dutasteride is more effective than finasteride for hair growth in men, with similar safety.
This systematic review and meta-analysis evaluated the efficacy and safety of dutasteride compared to finasteride in treating androgenetic alopecia (AGA) in men over a 24-week period. The analysis included three studies with a total of 576 participants. Results indicated that dutasteride was more effective than finasteride in increasing total hair count and improving global photographic assessments of hair growth. In terms of safety, both drugs showed similar rates of adverse reactions, particularly regarding sexual dysfunction, with no significant differences in altered libido, erectile dysfunction, or ejaculation disorders. Overall, dutasteride appeared to offer better efficacy for AGA treatment without additional safety concerns compared to finasteride.
