Effects of the biomimetic peptide Sh-Polypeptide 9 (CG-VEGF) on cocultures of human hair follicle dermal papilla cells and microvascular endothelial cells

    TLDR Sh-Polypeptide 9 may be better than minoxidil for hair growth and protection against damage.
    The study explored the effects of Sh-Polypeptide 9 on hair follicle vascularization by examining its impact on human hair follicle dermal papilla cells and microvascular endothelial cells in coculture. Sh-Polypeptide 9 was found to be more effective than minoxidil in enhancing the tubulogenic potential of endothelial cells, particularly at low concentrations. It also stimulated the release of VEGF and bFGF from endothelial cells and increased β-catenin expression in dermal papilla cells. Furthermore, Sh-Polypeptide 9 provided better protection against oxidative stress compared to minoxidil. The study suggested that Sh-Polypeptide 9 has potential as a treatment for promoting hair follicle vascularization and combating hair loss, but emphasized the need for further research through in vivo and clinical trials.
