TLDR Nymphaea caerulea flower extract can improve scalp conditions by reducing oil, inflammation, stress hormones, and blood vessel issues.
The study investigated the effects of Nymphaea caerulea flower extract (NCFE) on scalp conditions. NCFE was found to inhibit sebum production in sebocytes and suppress the lipase activity of Malassezia furfur, a microbe associated with scalp itch and irritation. Additionally, NCFE inhibited mast cell degranulation and the secretion of histamine and β-hexosaminidase induced by M. furfur. It also reduced cortisol production by inhibiting 11β-HSD activity and alleviated vascular permeability, both of which are linked to hair loss. These findings suggest that NCFE could be an effective treatment for improving scalp health by addressing sebum hypersecretion, inflammatory responses, cortisol levels, and vascular permeability.
