TLDR Melatonin increased the activity of a hair growth gene in Cashmere goats.
In a study conducted in 2012, the impact of melatonin on genes related to hair growth was examined in Cashmere goats. The study involved 10 lambs, with half receiving a melatonin implant every two months for a year. The results indicated that melatonin significantly increased the expression of the FGF5 gene, which is associated with hair growth, but did not significantly affect other genes. Additionally, melatonin improved the correlation between FGF5 and hairlessness, and altered the correlation with other genes. The researchers concluded that melatonin's effect on hair growth may vary between species and different cells within an organism.

It can be mixed with minoxidil for application, and its effectiveness might be enhanced when used with micro-needling, but results may vary among individuals.
