TLDR Ethosomal minoxidil improves hair growth by penetrating deeper into skin and shortening hair cycle.
The study investigated the use of ethosomal minoxidil for hair growth in C57BL/6 mice. Ethosomes, lipid vesicular systems with high concentrations of ethanol, were found to be efficient in enhancing the skin permeation of drugs. The study found that ethosomal minoxidil was able to penetrate deeper into the skin and deliver more minoxidil compared to naked minoxidil. The study also found that ethosomal minoxidil shortened the telogen of hair cycle and caused resting hair follicles to enter into the anagen prematurely, resulting in hair growth. The study suggests that ethosomal minoxidil may be a novel strategy for the management of hair growth disorders.
