TLDR Repigmentation patterns in vitiligo depend on melanocyte source, lesion status, and therapy choice.
The study analyzed the early repigmentation patterns in vitiligo patients, focusing on the relationship between these patterns, clinical characteristics, and therapeutic choices. It included 116 patients and 326 lesions, examining factors such as depigmentation degree, location, stage, distribution, and treatment. The findings indicated that perifollicular repigmentation was more common in completely depigmented lesions, non-sun-exposed areas, stable stages, and those treated with narrow band ultraviolet B (NB-UVB). Marginal repigmentation was frequent in completely depigmented lesions not treated with NB-UVB and facial lesions treated with topical vitamin D analogs (TVDAs). Diffuse repigmentation predominated in incompletely depigmented lesions, sun-exposed areas, progressive stages, and truncal lesions treated with TVDAs. The study concluded that repigmentation patterns in vitiligo depend on the melanocyte source and status, as well as the chosen therapy.
