TLDR New methods may speed up drug development for male subfertility.
Male subfertility affects millions globally, yet effective treatments beyond IVF or ICSI are lacking. Current unlicensed treatments like hormonal therapy and antioxidants show inconsistent improvements in sperm function, with unclear fertility benefits. Drug development is hindered by limited understanding of sperm function and the lengthy, costly traditional discovery process. Recent advancements, including high-throughput screening, combinatorial chemistry, and drug repurposing, offer promise in accelerating drug development and reducing resource demands, making scientific solutions for male subfertility more feasible.
