TLDR Diode laser treatment works better for facial hirsutism in patients with normal hormone levels.
The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of diode laser treatment in 50 patients with facial hirsutism, comparing those with normal versus deranged levels of dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) and dihydrotestosterone (DHT). Group A consisted of 18 patients with deranged hormone levels, while Group B included 16 patients with normal levels. Over 6 months, all participants underwent three diode laser sessions. Results showed that at the first follow-up, 62.5% of Group B experienced fair hair reduction compared to 16.7% in Group A. By the second follow-up, 56.3% of Group B had good hair reduction versus 11.1% in Group A. Group B also showed a more significant increase in vellus hair, reduction in terminal hair, longer hair-free intervals, and higher satisfaction levels. The study concluded that diode laser treatment was effective for hirsutism regardless of hormone levels, but more efficacious in patients with normal DHEAS and DHT levels.
