TLDR DHHB from Platycladus orientalis L. promotes hair growth and could be a natural alternative to current treatments.
The study explores the hair growth-promoting effects of (7E)-7,8-Dehydroheliobuphthalmin (DHHB) isolated from Platycladus orientalis L. In vivo tests on androgenetic alopecia (AGA) mouse models and in vitro experiments with dermal papilla cells (DPCs) revealed that DHHB significantly enhances hair growth by increasing hair follicle density, improving antioxidant enzyme activities, and reducing oxidative stress markers. DHHB also modulates the Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway and suppresses TGF-β mRNA expression, crucial for hair growth regulation. These findings suggest DHHB as a promising natural alternative to conventional hair growth treatments, warranting further investigation into its therapeutic efficacy.
