TLDR Hyaluronic acid microneedles with herbal extracts may effectively promote hair growth for treating hair loss.
The study explores the use of hyaluronic acid microneedles (PO-ex MN) loaded with Platycladus orientalis leaf extract as a novel intradermal delivery system for hair regeneration in treating androgenic alopecia. The microneedles, made from a double cross-linked HAMA/HA hydrogel, effectively penetrate the skin to deliver the extract into the dermis. This delivery system enhances hair follicle cell proliferation by removing reactive oxygen free radicals and activates the Wnt/β-catenin pathway through mechanical stimulation, promoting hair growth. The findings suggest that PO-ex MN could be a promising therapeutic strategy for androgenic alopecia.
