TLDR Betula platyphylla extract, particularly the H3-2 fraction, may help treat hair loss by promoting cell growth and inhibiting a hair loss-related enzyme.
The study explored the potential of Betula platyphylla extract as a hair loss treatment by examining its effects on human dermal papilla cell proliferation and the mechanism behind it. The extract's fractions were tested for their ability to promote cell growth and their impact on protein expression of growth factors and 5-alpha-reductase enzyme activity. The H3-2 fraction notably increased cell proliferation and growth factor protein levels, similar to known substances ETB and LPO, and uniquely decreased the activity of 5-alpha-reductase, which is associated with hair loss. These results indicate that Betula platyphylla extract, especially the H3-2 fraction, may be effective in treating hair loss by both stimulating dermal papilla cell growth and inhibiting a key enzyme linked to hair loss.

The user has been mixing finasteride with stemoxydine for hair loss and is considering switching to a less expensive product with a different ingredient list. They are questioning if the new product's higher water content compared to alcohol will affect the finasteride's solubility.
