TLDR Dermoscopy is useful for early diagnosis and monitoring of nail diseases.
This study examined the dermoscopic features of various nail diseases in 250 patients (130 males, 120 females) at a tertiary care center. Nail psoriasis was the most common condition, characterized by circular punctate depressions in 64.5% of cases. Onychomycosis, the second most common, showed yellowish discoloration and a rough scaly surface in all cases. Other findings included transverse brown bands in pitted keratolysis, longitudinal fissuring in lichen planus and trachyonychia, circular punctate depressions in alopecia areata, and giant capillaries in systemic scleroderma. The study concluded that dermoscopy is a valuable noninvasive tool for early diagnosis and monitoring of nail diseases, though further research is needed to confirm these findings.
