TLDR Videodermoscopy can help diagnose and monitor nail bed psoriasis.
The study used videodermoscopy to evaluate the capillary network of the fingernail hyponychium in 30 patients with nail bed psoriasis, comparing them to 5 patients with nailbed lichen planus and 15 control subjects. It found that patients with psoriasis had visible, dilated, tortuous, elongated, and irregularly distributed capillaries, with density correlating to disease severity. In contrast, lichen planus patients showed no capillary changes, and control subjects had less tortuous and fewer capillaries. The study suggested that videodermoscopy could aid in diagnosing nail bed psoriasis and monitoring treatment response, although it required manual capillary quantification.
