TLDR Videodermoscopy can help diagnose and monitor nail bed psoriasis.
The study evaluated the use of videodermoscopy to assess the capillary network of the fingernail hyponychium in 30 patients with nail bed psoriasis, comparing them with 5 patients with nail bed lichen planus and 15 healthy controls. The findings showed that patients with psoriasis had visible, dilated, tortuous, elongated, and irregularly distributed capillaries, with density correlating to disease severity. In contrast, no capillary changes were observed in patients with lichen planus, and healthy controls had fewer, less tortuous capillaries. The study concluded that videodermoscopy could aid in diagnosing nail bed psoriasis and monitoring treatment response, although a more advanced videodermoscope with computerized counting would improve practicality.
