TLDR Dermoscopy effectively assesses and improves acne scar treatments.
This pilot study involving 30 Indian patients demonstrated that dermoscopy is an effective tool for identifying and assessing treatment responses in acne scars, such as icepick, rolling, and boxcar scars. Treatments like subcision, microneedling, and chemical reconstruction significantly improved scars, especially those of shorter duration, by reducing pigmentation and increasing hair follicle density. Histopathological analysis confirmed increased collagen deposition, indicating effective treatment. While no treatment completely cures acne scars, the study underscores the importance of prevention and early intervention, and suggests further research with larger sample sizes to validate dermoscopy's role in managing acne scars.
