TLDR Dermocosmetics help manage skin issues in cancer patients, improving outcomes and reducing treatment interruptions.
Dermocosmetics, which are skincare solutions with dermatologically active ingredients, are increasingly used to manage skin toxicities in cancer patients undergoing various treatments. These skin toxicities can lead to interruptions or discontinuation of cancer therapies, resulting in suboptimal outcomes. The Association Francophone des Soins Oncologiques de Support (AFSOS) and the Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer (MASCC) collaborated with a multidisciplinary group of healthcare professionals to review literature and develop recommendations for using dermocosmetics to prevent and manage these toxicities. The group highlights the importance of dermocosmetics in maintaining skin integrity and relieving symptoms, thereby improving patient outcomes and minimizing treatment interruptions. They provide general guidelines for the use of skincare in oncology patients and specific recommendations for different types of skin toxicities.
