TLDR Patients with metabolic syndrome often have skin problems like acanthosis nigricans and skin tags, and early treatment is important to prevent serious issues.
The study by Sameer Abrol and Rohini Sharma, which included 180 patients from a tertiary care center in North India, found a significant prevalence of dermatological disorders among patients with metabolic syndrome. The most common skin conditions observed were acanthosis nigricans (61.6%), skin tags (61.1%), acne (52.7%), and hirsutism (51.1%), with many patients presenting with more than one disorder. The research highlighted the importance of early diagnosis and management of these skin disorders, which are increasingly linked to metabolic syndrome, to prevent serious complications such as cardiovascular events. The study emphasized the need for clinicians to be aware of these associations for better patient outcomes.
