TLDR Women with PCOS, especially with hirsutism, should be screened for depression and anxiety.
This study investigated the prevalence of depression and anxiety in 260 Thai women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and identified associated factors. The prevalence of depression, anxiety, and poor mental well-being was 3.8%, 11.9%, and 16.9%, respectively. Key factors linked to depression included poor mental well-being, snoring, moderate to severe hirsutism, and anxiety. Anxiety was associated with having children and hirsutism. The study highlights the significant impact of PCOS on mental health and suggests that women with PCOS, especially those with hirsutism, should be screened for depression and anxiety.
