TLDR PCOS and related metabolic issues often run in families.
The study aimed to analyze the genetic inheritance of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) by examining the family history and related metabolic disturbances in 85 PCOS females and their 604 first and second generation relatives. Conducted at Kasturba Medical College between 2009 and 2012, the study found that 78% of PCOS patients were either overweight or obese, 98% had hirsutism, and approximately 33% had metabolic syndrome (MetS), with a higher prevalence in the first generation. The data suggested a significant familial aggregation of PCOS and its related metabolic disturbances.
