Biochemical Evaluation of the Protective Effects of Dandelion and Safflower Compared to Silymarin Against Thioacetamide in Rats

This study evaluated the protective effects of dandelion and safflower compared to silymarin against thioacetamide (TAA)-induced liver and kidney damage in 35 rats. The rats were divided into five groups, including a control group and a TAA group, with the latter receiving TAA injections. The other three groups received TAA along with daily oral treatments of silymarin, dandelion extract, or safflower extract. Results showed that TAA significantly increased liver enzymes and kidney function parameters while decreasing albumin concentration. All treatments improved these parameters compared to the TAA group, with safflower being the most effective, followed by silymarin and then dandelion. The study suggests that dandelion and safflower extracts may provide protection against TAA-induced liver and kidney damage.
