TLDR Ethanol and methanol extracts of Spirulina platensis do not kill WiDr colon cancer cells.
The study aimed to determine the cytotoxic effects of ethanol and methanol extracts of Spirulina platensis on WiDr colon cancer cells using the MTT assay. Concentrations tested ranged from 31.25 to 500 μg/mL. The results indicated that neither extract exhibited cytotoxic activity against WiDr cells. The ethanol extract contained flavonoids, steroids, and β-carotene pigments, while the methanol extract contained terpenoids, flavonoids, phenolics, steroids, and β-carotene pigments.
