TLDR Pacific oyster peptides may help wounds heal without scars.
The study investigated the potential of peptides derived from Crassostrea gigas (Pacific oyster) meats for wound healing. The researchers used a neutral protease and controllable hydrolysis process to prepare randomized self-assembling supramolecular material of peptides with multi-functions. The peptides, termed CNPs, were less than 3 K Da in size and possessed a characteristic sequence. In vitro healing activity verification systems showed that CNPs act as antioxidants, procoagulant, and promote proliferation of epidermal cells. Although there was a time difference in the healing process of the two kinds of CNPs administered, there was no difference in the final tissue repair effect. This suggests that peptides derived from Crassostrea gigas meats could be a promising agent for developing new wound-healing biomaterials.
