TLDR Puerariae Radix extract may be a promising cosmetic ingredient for skin health.
The study investigated the cosmetic potential of ethanol extract of Puerariae Radix (EPR) on human dermal fibroblasts, revealing that EPR suppressed collagenase activity and inhibited 5α-reductase I and II at 25 μg/ml. It also promoted cell proliferation and ERK activation, which was blocked by the ERK inhibitor PD98059, indicating that EPR's effects were mediated through ERK activation. These findings suggested that EPR could be a promising new cosmetic ingredient.
