TLDR Puerariae Radix extract may be a promising cosmetic ingredient for skin health.
The study investigated the cosmetic potential of ethanol extract of Puerariae Radix (EPR) using human dermal fibroblasts. It was found that EPR suppressed collagenase activity in a dose-dependent manner and inhibited the activity of 5α-reductase I and II at a concentration of 25 μg/ml. Additionally, EPR promoted cell proliferation and ERK activation, which was blocked by the ERK-specific inhibitor PD98059, indicating that EPR could enhance cell proliferation through ERK activation. These findings suggested that EPR might be a promising new cosmetic ingredient.
