TLDR A man unhappy with his old hair restoration got a new, natural-looking hairline using a combination of follicular unit extraction and punch graft reduction.
A 40-year-old man with Hamilton-Norwood Grade-5 Androgenetic Alopecia, who was dissatisfied with the results of a previous 4 mm follicular punch grafting hair restoration surgery, underwent two corrective procedures. The first procedure involved the transplantation of 1,800 follicular unit grafts using the follicle unit extraction (FUE) method to create a new leading edge hairline in a classical adult male M-shaped pattern. Four weeks later, the second procedure involved punch graft reduction using a 4 mm punch excision and suturing. Three months post-second procedure, the patient exhibited a natural-looking hairline, which he found satisfactory. This case underscores the continued use of an outdated punch grafting technique for hair restoration and its successful correction using FUE hair restoration and punch graft reduction.
