TLDR Betamethasone dipropionate lotion is more effective than minoxidil solution for treating Alopecia Areata.
The research compared the effectiveness of topical betamethasone dipropionate and topical minoxidil in 100 patients with Alopecia Areata (AA), aged 18-50. The patients were divided into two groups: Group A was treated with betamethasone dipropionate (0.05%) lotion twice daily, and Group B with minoxidil (5%) solution twice daily, both for 12 weeks. The results showed that betamethasone dipropionate was significantly more effective, with 74% of patients in Group A showing efficacy, compared to 42% in Group B. The study concluded that betamethasone dipropionate (0.05%) lotion has a statistically significantly higher efficacy compared to minoxidil (5%) solution in patients with AA, especially in younger patients. No serious side effects were noted in either group.
