TLDR Steroid injections are more effective than platelet rich plasma for treating patchy hair loss.
The study compared the efficacy of intralesional injections of platelet rich plasma and triamcinolone in treating alopecia areata, an autoimmune disorder causing patchy hair loss. Sixty patients were divided into two groups, with one group receiving triamcinolone injections and the other receiving platelet rich plasma injections. Treatments were repeated at one-month intervals for four months. The results showed a significant difference in complete response rate between the two treatments. Intralesional injection of steroid (triamcinolone) was found to be more effective than platelet rich plasma (p <0.05). However, the study suggests that platelet rich plasma could be considered as an alternative therapy for alopecia areata due to its lack of serious local side effects.

Someone's brother tried Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for hair loss; it had minimal effect on hair but improved skin appearance. Microneedling at home was suggested as a more sustainable alternative.
