TLDR Alopecia patients have a higher risk of heart disease.
This preliminary preprint short report investigates the levels of Troponin I, a cardiac biomarker, in individuals with Alopecia Areata, Androgenic Alopecia, and healthy controls. The study highlights that both types of alopecia are linked to an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), which are the leading cause of death globally according to the WHO. The research underscores the importance of monitoring cardiac health in patients with these forms of hair loss due to their association with cardiovascular risk factors. The study calls for early detection and intervention to mitigate potential cardiac issues in these patients.
