Combination therapy with oral minoxidil and dutasteride in the treatment of male patterned baldness: A case report
January 2022
in “Cosmoderma”
TLDR Using oral minoxidil and dutasteride together can quickly increase hair growth and volume with minimal side effects.
The document is a case report on the use of combination therapy with oral minoxidil and dutasteride in the treatment of male patterned baldness. The study involved a 28-year-old male patient with Grade 5 alopecia who had previously used minoxidil 5% solution without satisfactory results. The patient was prescribed tablet minoxidil 2.5 mg once a day and tablet dutasteride 0.5 mg alternate day orally. After 1 month, the patient experienced a slight increase in hair density, and by the end of the 4th month, increased hair volume and new hair growth were seen in all areas of the scalp. The patient did not experience significant side effects. The author concludes that this combination therapy produced quick results with minimal adverse effects, but large-scale multicentric studies are required to confirm these findings.

research A4. Hair loss – surgical and pharmacological treatment
Hair loss, affecting most adult men and some women, can lead to social and psychological issues despite not being pathological. Androgenetic alopecia, the most common type, results from genetic and hormonal factors, but other causes include poor nutrition, alopecia areata, infections, systemic diseases, metabolic or genetic disorders, and drug side effects. Treatment options in 2002 included hormone modifiers like finasteride, dutasteride, and spironolactone, as well as surgical methods such as scalp surgery, excision of bald scalp, tissue expansion, scalp flaps, and hair transplantation, which were continually being refined.
