TLDR JAK inhibitors are recommended for severe alopecia areata if corticosteroids fail.
The consensus document on the clinical management of alopecia areata (AA) by the Spanish Hair Research Group outlines updated treatment recommendations, emphasizing the role of JAK inhibitors for extensive AA cases unresponsive to systemic corticosteroids. The document, developed using the Delphi method with input from 23 dermatologists, achieved agreement on 81% of 125 proposed items, categorized into five recommendation groups: generalities, localized AA, moderate AA, extensive AA, and special situations. This national consensus aims to guide health professionals in managing AA, integrating expert opinions and scientific evidence.
