TLDR Scarring folliculitis type of acne inversa is linked to specific symptoms and lifestyle factors like smoking and being overweight.
The study investigated the scarring folliculitis type of acne inversa in a Chinese population, involving 21 patients and 6 controls. It found that 57.14% of patients had this subtype, characterized by double comedones, papules, nodules, and depressed scars, with a high prevalence of smoking (58.33%) and occupational exposure (41.67%). Histopathological analysis showed unique features like follicular hyperplasia and sebaceous gland disappearance, absent in controls. The study suggested a potential role of smoking and chemical exposure in the pathogenesis of acne inversa and highlighted the need for further research on genetic factors and treatment responses. Limitations included a small sample size and potential selection bias.
