This study examined the clinical and histopathological characteristics of the scarring folliculitis type of acne inversa in a Chinese population, involving 21 patients and 6 controls. It found that 57.14% of patients exhibited features like double comedones, papules, nodules, and depressed scars, with most being in Hurley stage I. A significant portion of these patients were smokers (58.33%), had occupational exposure (41.67%), or were overweight (50%). Histopathological analysis revealed unique changes in the scarring folliculitis type, such as epidermal and follicular hyperplasia, sebaceous gland destruction, and granulomatous inflammation, which were not present in controls. The study concluded that this type of acne inversa is associated with specific clinical features and lifestyle factors, suggesting the need for further research to explore the relationship between clinical subtypes and genetic factors.
