TLDR Chemical treatments severely damage hair cuticles, especially in previously treated hair.
This study investigates the impact of chemical degradation on hair cuticle structure using advanced microscopic techniques. It was found that bleaching causes partial degradation in virgin hair, while previously treated hair shows complete deterioration with holes and gaps. These findings highlight the significant damage caused by cosmetic treatments and provide insights for recommendations in trichology and cosmetology.
